About

Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Peter D. Martin opened the first all-paperback bookstore in the U.S. here in 1953. Ferlinghetti's 1956 publication of Allen Ginsberg's Howl led to an obscenity trial. It became an official landmark in 2001.
