Aidan Compton left the corporate coffee world to open Compton's Coffee House in 2020. It now runs cafes on Fillmore Street and Columbus Avenue, with a third planned on Grant Avenue as of its September 2026 Instagram bio. Variety Coffee Roasters supplies the beans, and artists in residence showed work at the Columbus Avenue shop in August and September 2026.
The North Beach shop is one long room with the counter at the back and a row of six brightly colored paintings of San Francisco buildings above a built-in banquette. A long wooden communal table sits along the windows, and a glazed wall opens fully to the sidewalk.
